Cereus forbesii is an attractive indoor cactus, prized for its columnar stems and vigorous growth. It adds a touch of verticality and exoticism to any indoor space, offering a natural, desert-like look.
Origin: Cereus forbesii is native to the arid regions of South America, particularly Argentina and Bolivia, where it grows in desert and rocky areas.
Growth: Cereus forbesii exhibits moderate to rapid growth, forming columnar stems that can reach several meters in height outdoors, but often limited to 1 to 2 meters indoors. Its stems are green with pronounced ribs and short, thin spines.
Flowers: Produces large, usually white, nocturnal flowers that open at dusk and are often fragrant. Flowering occurs mainly in summer, but is rare in indoor cultivation.
Light: Prefers direct light or bright artificial light. Direct sunlight promotes healthy growth and flower production.
Watering: Requires moderate watering. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings to prevent root rot. In winter, reduce watering during the dormant season.
Substrate: Use a well-draining cactus soil. A mixture of cactus soil and perlite is ideal for improving drainage.
Toxicity: Cereus forbesii is non-toxic, making it safe for pets and children.
