Aeonium ‘Sweet Tea’ f. variegata is an exceptionally attractive Aeonium variety thanks to its variegated foliage with bright, distinct colors. This succulent forms small rosettes with an impressive mix of green, yellow, and sometimes shades of red, giving it a colorful look all year round.
Origin: Although Aeoniums are native to the Canary Islands, the variety ‘Sweet Tea’ f. variegata is a horticultural selection, developed specifically for its variegated characteristics and aesthetic qualities. It combines the typical robustness of Aeoniums with bright colors and a unique foliage pattern.
Growth: Aeonium ‘Sweet Tea’ f. variegata forms rosettes. The plant grows upright and can produce stems that support colorful rosettes, making it ideal for rock gardens or tall succulent arrangements.
Flowers: This variety can produce typical Aeonium flowers, usually in clusters, on long flower stalks above the rosettes. The flowers are often yellow, adding a dramatic contrast to the variegated foliage during the flowering period, which usually occurs in late winter or early spring.
Light: Aeonium ‘Sweet Tea’ f. variegata requires bright light to maintain the vibrancy of its colors. Partial to full sun is ideal, but it is important to protect the plant from direct sunlight during the hottest parts of the day to avoid burning.
Watering: As with most Aeoniums, watering should be moderate. The plant prefers a watering cycle where the substrate has time to dry out completely between waterings. During the winter months, reduce watering as the plant goes dormant.
Substrate: Use a well-draining mix designed for cacti and succulents. Incorporating coarse sand, pumice, and perlite will help ensure good drainage, which is crucial to preventing root rot.
Toxicity: Aeoniums are generally considered non-toxic to humans and pets, making Aeonium ‘Sweet Tea’ f. variegata a safe option for homes and gardens.
